The Community Health Worker (CHW) serves as a trusted bridge between families and community systems, helping reduce barriers to care while promoting healing, safety, stability, and long-term family wellbeing. The CHW will support the Pasifika Safe Homes, with a specialized focus on family healing, safety, stabilization, and wellbeing for Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander (NHPI) non-abusive parents and their children who have been impacted by family violence, dating violence, or domestic violence and sexual assault (DV/SA). 

The CHW will provide culturally responsive, trauma-informed, family-centered support that strengthens protective factors, supports healthy parent-child relationships, and connects families to health, behavioral health, housing, legal, education, childcare, and other community resources.

The ideal candidate understands and respects the unique experiences and perspectives of NHPI communities and recognizes the importance of family, culture, language, community, and traditional approaches to wellness, intervention and healing. The CHW should understand the importance of family, culture, language, community, intergenerational relationships, and traditional approaches to healing. The CHW recognizes the resilience of non-abusive parents and children and supports families in building safe, healthy, and connected futures.

Working conditions
Work occurs at the PCA office, remotely, and throughout the community, including schools, faith-based organizations, cultural organizations, healthcare settings, family homes, and community events. Periodic travel within Alaska may be required. Services must be delivered in accordance with PCA policies and procedures and the requirements of the Alaska Pasifika Safe Homes Initiative.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications
  • Two years of experience in community health, family services, social services, outreach, advocacy, care coordination, or related work preferred.
  • Experience supporting parents, children, families, or individuals impacted by trauma or violence preferred.
  • Experience working with NHPI communities is preferred.
  • CHW certification preferred or willingness to obtain.
  • Strong communication, organization, documentation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Knowledge of Alaska health and social service resources or ability to develop this knowledge quickly.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Ability to work occasional evenings/weekends and travel for community-based services.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and complete required DV/SA, trauma-informed care, child safety, cultural competency, and data-security training.
  • Strong understanding of NHPI culture, family structures, values, and culturally grounded approaches to healing and wellness.
  • NHPI language proficiency strongly encouraged.

Essential Functions: 
  • Provide culturally responsive outreach, engagement, intake, and family needs assessments.
  • Support non-abusive parents in strengthening their caregiver roles and family stability.
  • Provide trauma-informed, strength-based support to parents and children.
  • Support healthy parent-child relationships, family resilience, and healing.
  • Connect families to health, behavioral health, housing, legal, education, childcare, transportation, and other resources.
  • Provide warm referrals and follow-up to ensure families successfully connect with services.
  • Support family healing, wellness, parenting, cultural connection, and resilience-building activities.
  • Identify safety concerns and follow established PCA protocols for DV/SA and child safety concerns.
  • Coordinate with specialized DV/SA advocates, healthcare providers, behavioral health professionals, schools, and community partners.
  • Maintain safe contact practices and strict confidentiality.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and de-identified program documentation.
  • Participate in supervision, training, case consultation, CQI, evaluation, outreach, and community events.
  • Other duties as assigned.
